A big part of the BM collections is made of either metal or of clay-based materials, like pottery and porcelain. The Ceramics, Glass and Metals (CGM) Section of the Department of Conservation looks after these objects. This team specialises in archaeological and historical metals, ceramics, glass, enamels, faience etc. They also work on any archaeological finds by the public in England and Wales that come to the museum as part of the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
